The above is a story that you’ll be very aware of and probably find yourself telling yourself a lot. I’ll bet you have had a moment where you’ve said to yourself, “I just can’t believe I am doing this.” I can’t either, but I have.
We know that youre not just talking about the fact that you dont actually have a choice. You could have just said no, but since youre reading this, you have the option of making a choice. We think this is because of the way your brain is wired. So, when your brain makes the right decision, it is because it is aware of a certain type of thinking.
We think this is because you have certain neurons that are wired to respond the way your brain wants them to. So when you make a decision, you dont really have to think about it, you just have to act on it. We could call this the “automatic” response of the brain, because if the brain is aware of a certain type of thinking, it will automatically act on that.
The problem people have with the automatic response is that when that response happens, it can be incredibly painful. If you feel pain when something is going wrong, it is because you are actively thinking about it. If you are not thinking about it, no pain.

I think our game designer, Elias, is one of the few people who is able to take a problem and make it more palatable than we would have thought possible. In a game like The Last of Us, the player can’t play from the perspective of a character like Joel, who’s the protagonist of the main story. The player has to play from the perspective of a character with a very different personality that Joel. Elias has done an incredible job of this.
